What is a Camp Stove?

A camp stove is a portable cooking device that allows you to cook meals while traveling, typically using propane as fuel. These are compact, user friendly options, and make cooking outside easy. There are multiple different styles of stove, each style specific to certain occasions.

How to Use Camp Stoves

The first step in using a camp stove is to operate the equipment safely. Use fuel properly, and always cook in a well ventilated area. Camp stoves and fuel containers provide important operational instructions that should be followed during every use. After safely attaching your fuel container, place the camp stove on a clean, flat surface. Turn the igniter knobs on, and hold a flame to the burner. Adjust the burner to desired temperature after lighting. After you have cooked your meal, turn the stove completely off. Safely remove the fuel source, and clean the stove thoroughly.

Camp Stove Features

When purchasing a camp stove, the specs can be confusing. The list below clarifies the features in camp stove descriptions.

BTU’s Per Burner – BTU = British Thermal Unit, measures the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of water by 1 degree Fahrenheit. (Layman’s terms: Higher BTU number = more heat produced per burner)

Liquid Fuel – Refillable fuel source, typically using white gas.

Canister Stove – Stove uses a screw-top fuel canister typically containing propane, or isobutane.

Most models do not include fuel when purchasing a stove. Click the link below to view my most used fuel source.
