Self Growth Stories
Have you ever heard of Paul Mitchell hair products? What about Patrón tequila? These are two famous brands in the United States owned by businessman John Paul DeJoria. DeJoria had many jobs before becoming the businessman he is today. His family struggled financially during his childhood. At one time he was homeless, selling shampoo door to door while living in his car. DeJoria chose to use challenges to propel him forward and change his life. Fear
Fear is an emotion that causes people to believe there is an imminent danger or threat to their wellbeing. While fear typically occurs in survival situations, this emotion can also keep us from leaving our comfort zone in new or undetermined situations. When taking a step out of our comfort zone, we feel vulnerable and unsure of the outcome. There are two paths to take when facing fear. Path 1 leads right back to the comfort zone, or never makes it out. Path 2 is through challenge and into an abundance of possibility. A way to overcome fear is to trust in yourself and never give up. Trust that you can overcome challenges, and have the mental strength to persevere. Once you encounter challenge and prove to yourself that you are strong enough to overcome it, you’ll never want to go back to the comfort zone you once left.
The First Step
The first step toward a goal is often the most difficult. Taking the first step means there is possibility of failure, challenge, and change. Fortunately, failure is not final and challenge creates change. If you don’t experience change, you’ll stay stationary in life. Almost every successful individual failed over and over before making it to their goal. Failure is just an obstacle on the path to your goal, and getting through challenges teaches you how to overcome, adapt, and advance. Take the first step and watch your mindset transform.
The Ripple Effect
Dropping a rock into a pond creates a ripple effect that reaches far and wide, changing the surface of the water beyond the initial action. This metaphor relates to life in taking that first step. After stepping out of your comfort zone, you begin the journey of self growth. You’ll create your own opportunities that expand into unimaginable growth toward your goals.
Challenge Creates Change
As you enter this self growth period, you will encounter challenges that may be more difficult than anything you’ve experienced before. In order to change your life, challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone and toward your goals. Eventually, you’ll notice you are more capable of change than you thought. Your goals will become larger and more achievable the more you grow as an individual.
