This post describes the phrase “something is better than nothing” and how to implement it into your daily life.
This short post is a reminder that something is better than nothing. It has been difficult for me to write the past few weeks, and I’ve been experiencing burnout and writers block. This has had a negative effect on my headspace and mindset. I quickly fell into a pattern of feeling so uninspired that I didn’t even try to write some days.
It seems like I shouldn’t be experiencing these issues if I’m always preaching self development and discipline, but I quickly realized that the more I try to be perfect, the further I get from it.
I am not perfect. I am not always motivated to be my best self. Sometimes I lack discipline. This is normal.
And in these times, I must remind myself that something is better than nothing.
Regardless of whether you put in 100%, 75%, 25%, or 10%; effort is effort.
What Does it Mean?
This phrase is very self explanatory, meaning that putting in a small effort is better than putting in no effort at all. For example, doing 15 minutes of exercise isn’t much, but does more for your body than not doing anything.
This can also be translated to satisfaction in life. Instead of being upset over what you don’t have, be thankful you have anything at all.
How to Implement
As I get back into regular posting, I will be following these 3 steps to get back into a positive mindset for the New Year.
1. Cut Yourself Some Slack
Beating yourself up isn’t going to improve your situation. Understand that life has its ups and downs, and this isn’t the end of the world. Just because you fell off for a while doesn’t mean you can’t get back on track.
You can’t “undo” anything in life, so accept the past and move on.
2. Rest If You Need It
Sometimes the best remedy for burnout is rest. Maybe you pushed yourself too hard and your body and mind are demanding a break. Allow yourself a period of rest so you can fully focus on getting back to your best self.
Take a day off, have a nap, or watch a good movie.
3. Take a Step
Sometimes all you need to do is take that first step to create a chain reaction. Getting out of bed may trigger a chain reaction to cleaning your room, or taking a shower. Write down a to-do list. Putting pen to paper may spark an idea in your brain. Any step is a step.
