Chocolate almond protein bites are a perfect trail snack. This recipe makes about 12 protein bites, and can be modified to your unique taste.

Ingredients
old fashioned oats – rich in antioxidants and fiber
almonds – source of vitamins and nutrients
dark chocolate – heart healthy and provides antioxidants
almond butter – source of protein and omega 3 fatty acids
unsweetened shredded coconut – provides healthy fats and promotes brain health
flax seeds – source of fiber and omega 3 fatty acids
honey – anti-inflammatory and antibacterial
Recipe
- 1/3 cup flax seeds
- 3/4 cup old fashioned oats
- 1/4 cup chopped dark chocolate
- 2/3 cup almond butter
- 1/4 cup chopped almonds
- 1/4 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
- 2 tbsp honey
Instructions
- Combine all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
- Stir until ingredients are evenly mixed.
- Refrigerate mixture for 15 minutes.
- Roll the mixture into 12 even balls.
- Coat in coconut flakes if desired.
If the mixture is too dry, add a small amount of water or nut butter to help fuse the ingredients together. Feel free to modify this recipe to fit your unique taste. Substitute different nuts and nut butters for variation. Chia seeds, hemp seeds, or oat flour can replace flax seed.
