Why Organization is Important
Being organized in life is an important way to keep your mind decluttered. It is proven that organization increases productivity, decreases stress, and improves sleep among other benefits. Organization can mean cleaning up your space, or cleaning up your mind. Taking care of those things you’ve been putting off will free up space in your mind to work on yourself.
What is a “Sunday Reset”?
What is a “Sunday Reset”? A reset is the act of getting your life together to make your week easier, and flow smoother. This act does not have to occur on Sunday. Although Sunday is a good day to organize your life, people have different days off throughout the week. Perform your reset on a day that works best with your schedule, and set up your week to flow as smoothly as possible.
Organize Your Life : Sunday Reset Ideas
Below are 10 Sunday reset ideas to organize your life, and help you stay on track to becoming the best version of yourself.
1. Clean Your Space
Cleaning your space is an important way to declutter your environment and mind. If there are things that you have been putting off or haven’t cleaned in a while, start your Sunday reset by cleaning. Examples include doing laundry, vacuuming, washing the sheets, doing dishes, wiping down mirrors, or any other task to make your environment feel clean.
2. Organize Your Space
Cleaning and organizing mean different things. Cleaning is the process of disinfecting, while organization is adding structure and order to an area. For example, washing your clothes makes them clean, but folding and putting them away makes them organized. Throughout the week, your closet and drawers may become cluttered, so taking some time on your reset day to organize makes your next reset day easier. Organize your workspace, living space, and any other areas necessary.
3. Rearrange Furniture
Rearranging your furniture changes the feeling of your space, while giving you a chance to clean around and underneath items that are usually stationary. “Feng Shui” is a Chinese practice of arranging your home in a way that provides the most peace and balance possible. 4. Declutter Digital Space
There are some electronics that we use daily, like our phones. Cleaning up clutter on your phone can clean up clutter in your mind, since you look at your phone so often. This is also a great way to keep more storage free on your devices. On your Sunday reset day, go through your phone and delete any unused or unwanted data. This can include unused apps, excess photos and videos, unwanted messages, and more. Go through your emails and delete unimportant mail from your inbox. Choose a fresh new home screen that reflects the energy you want to feel for the week.
5. Plan Your Meals
Meal planning is tedious, but eliminates stress during the week. Deciding what you want to eat throughout the week will save you time, and money. This allows you to utilize groceries, eat healthier, and minimize fast food and ordering out. Depending on your schedule, meal prepping or meal planning is a great way to organize your week. Use your reset day to plan ahead, or cook food in advance.
6. Schedule Your Week
Creating a rough outline of what you need to get done for the week makes sticking to your goals easier. If you have a written checklist of what needs to be completed, you are more likely to achieve what you set out to do. Scheduling is different for everyone. Some people prefer a rigorous schedule, while others work better using a rough outline. Whatever works best for you, plan out the upcoming days and create a checklist of what you want to achieve by the end of the week.
7. Eliminate Distractions
Eliminating distractions that no longer serve you is a great way to continue your journey toward a better version of yourself. We as humans are always changing, growing, and developing; so things that you have grown out of must be filtered out each week to keep you on track. This can include deleting songs from your playlist that you’ve grown tired of, unfollowing accounts that you no longer resonate with, and unsubscribing from services that distract you from your goals.
8. Set a Goal
Continuously setting goals keeps you motivated and determined to become a better version of yourself. It is important to always have something to work toward, and once you hit that goal, create a new goal. If you already have a goal you are working toward, revisit that goal and the progress you have made. If you do not currently have a goal, set one. Start a new challenge, read a new book, work on quitting a bad habit, or start a new hobby and master it.
9. Move Your Body
Starting the week off with movement creates momentum to stay active throughout the week. Set aside some time to work on yourself by following a pilates or yoga video. Go for a walk and get some fresh air. No matter the exercise, moving your body changes your mindset more than you think.
10. Self Care
Self care is an important step in the process to organize your life. Setting aside time to practice self care at least once a week will improve your mental health substantially. Finish your reset day with what you characterize as self care. After a long day of organizing your life, do your nails, shape your eyebrows, do a face mask, take an “everything” shower, or any other form of self care that makes you feel good.
