The Benefits of Change
When you are unsure of an outcome, it is common to feel anxious and uncomfortable. These are normal emotions to feel when experiencing change, but in the long run, you will benefit from what you learned. Change is an important part of life that forces you to learn new things, and grow as an individual. As you navigate a new, difficult challenge in life, you learn more skills, become more confident, and create more opportunities for yourself.
The Human Perception
As humans, we are conditioned to believe that change is a problem, rather than an opportunity. Adjusting your perception of change will help you accept the process, and realize that this is an opportunity for growth.
How to Deal With Change
1. Embrace It
Embrace that change is a part of life. As you get older, you experience many changes throughout life that teach you new skills, better habits, and make you a more adaptive person. These are all great qualities! Once you get through it, you will become a higher version of yourself. Embrace the journey!
2. Utilize Failures
When trying new things, it is very rare to get it right on the first try. Life is about trial and error. Roadblocks and obstacles are inevitable, and are placed in your path to teach you valuable lessons. Utilize mistakes and failures as a learning experience to develop life skills like overcoming obstacles, resilience, and mental strength.
3. Be Consistent
Consistency is key when working toward any goal. When you challenge yourself to experience changes, it is important to keep your end goal in mind. Frequently remind yourself of the ultimate goal, and the steps needed to achieve it. Show up for yourself every day.
4. Practice Optimism
Practicing optimism is one of the most important lessons in life. The more optimistic you are, your mind will slowly believe that you can achieve whatever it is you’re working toward. Your mind is the most powerful thing about you, so use it to your advantage. “Fake it ’til you make it” is a common phrase that means the more you pretend to be confident and capable, the more confident and capable you actually become. Give yourself a pep talk and convince your mind that you can do this.
5. Detach from the Process
It is important to stay consistent and driven toward your end goal, but always take time for self care along the way. Make sure your mental and physical health is your number 1 priority, because the healthier you are, the better you can handle change. Do not define yourself by this experience. Everything works out just the way it is supposed to, so trust that it will as long as you do your part. It is easy to become overwhelmed if you neglect your mental and physical health, so detach from the process at times to take care of yourself.
