This post lists the 25 life lessons I’ve learned in 25 years. This list is for anyone in their twenties working to become a better version of themselves.
Today is my birthday! I turn 25 today, even though I still feel like a kid inside. I remember when I was young I thought 25 was so old! Now at 25, I feel like my life is just getting started. I have learned so much over the years, and have plenty more mistakes to make and life lessons to learn as I get older. But today, my gift to you is sharing things I’ve learned in my 25 years of life.
Change is an important part of life. Looking back on my younger self, I have changed into an almost completely different person. I’ve tried and failed too many times to count, and I’ve had many hobbies, dreams, and passions come and go.
Regardless of success or failure, I learned something every. single. time. And that is the beauty of this life. We are always learning, growing, and changing.
Life is final, and one day we will all die. Understanding that we will not be here forever is a great and beautiful way to live everyday fully, love with our whole heart, and do everything we’ve always wanted to do.
25 Life Lessons I’ve Learned in 25 Years
Lesson 1 : Everything happens for a reason.
Every single thing that has happened in life has brought you to this point. Every inconvenience, every success, every failure. It all happens for a reason.
Lesson 2 : You are capable of anything you set your mind to.
Your mind is the most powerful thing about you. You have the ability to accomplish anything with a strong mindset.
Lesson 3 : This too shall pass.
It is important to remember that the only thing you’ll have forever is yourself. Everything else in life will come and go. Appreciate things and people who come into your life. If you’re going through tough times, trust that there are brighter days ahead.
Lesson 4 : It’s not that deep.
Controlling your emotions is something that will benefit you in every aspect of life. If it’s not that deep, just let it go.
Lesson 5 : Education is key.
Staying sharp is a very important part of life. Educate yourself as much as you can on every subject. Be smart with your money, know how to do things yourself, and expand your vocabulary. Continue educating yourself even after you’re done with school.
Lesson 6: Stop people pleasing.
You cannot make everyone happy. Just do things that you truly want to do and make you happy.
Lesson 7: Energy is real.
Energy is a very real thing and you should be conscious of the energy you put out into the world. Surround yourself only with positive, inspirational energy. Toxic and negative energy is not welcome in my space!
Lesson 8: Honesty is the best policy.
Being honest with people will help you in the long run. Lying to protect peoples feelings turns out worse than just being honest. Tell people how you truly feel.
Lesson 9: You can’t control everything.
Sometimes things are simply out of your control. You cannot control others. Stop trying. Just let it be, and worry about what you can control.
Lesson 10: True happiness comes from within.
Happiness does not come from how much you have. Some of the richest people in the world are the most unhappy. Once I started to change who I am and how I treat others, I found the answer. Happiness comes from who you are inside. You are truly happy when you are proud of the person you are.
Lesson 11: Be independent.
Independence is the most freedom I have ever experienced. When you learn to be more independent, the more you will trust yourself and your decisions.
Lesson 12: NEVER give up on yourself.
There have been plenty of times where I have felt defeated and wanted to give up. But if I had given up, I wouldn’t have broken through those barriers that allowed me to start my blog, become independent, and rise to a higher version of myself. Failures are meant to make you grow and become stronger, not stop you from trying.
Lesson 13: Take care of yourself.
Taking care of your mind and body is so important as you get older. Prioritize exercise, healthy eating, and mental wellness. It matters!
Lesson 14: Be present.
In life, it is easy to dwell on the past and worry about the future. This distracts us from living in the now. Be more present and enjoy every day as much as possible.
Lesson 15: The rule of 5.
If it won’t matter in 5 years, don’t spend more than 5 minutes worrying about it.
Lesson 16: Believe.
Believe in something. Whether it is God, yourself, the power of the universe, or miracles. Just believe. It makes life worth living.
Lesson 17: Take chances!
You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
Lesson 18: You’ll figure it out.
Every other thing you have struggled with was figured out one way or another. Remember this moving forward and trust that it will all work out in the end.
Lesson 19: Everyone has their own story.
You are responsible for carrying out the life you were meant to have. Other people may not think the same way as you do and that’s okay! You do not need to change everyones mind.
Lesson 20: Discipline overrules motivation.
You will not be motivated everyday. Motivation is an emotion, while discipline is an action. Discipline is the number one factor that will get you closer to your goals.
Lesson 21: Substances are fun, until they’re not.
Drinking and drugs sound fun, but depreciate your quality of life over time. You will learn more about yourself and the world around you when you turn to healthy solutions and coping mechanisms.
Lesson 22: Experience as much as you can.
Do everything you always wanted to do. Go on that trip, see the world, have fun with your friends and family. Experiences and good memories are the most valuable thing in life.
Lesson 23: You don’t have to have it all figured out.
Most people don’t. And that’s okay. All we can do is try our best.
Lesson 24: No one cares as much as you think.
People are most interested in themselves. Don’t worry about what other people think, and just be your true self.
Lesson 25: Be grateful for everything.
Appreciate everything because it was all placed in your path for a reason.
25 years has taught me a lot, but I know there is always more to learn. That is why I started this blog. To share my experiences and things I learn along the way to hopefully help you the way it helps me.
Thanks so much for being here, here’s to 25!
